Consultant Economist – Health Financing Project

About the role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) seeks a Consultant Economist to support its Health Financing Project in Addis Ababa. The role focuses on strengthening ECA's analytical capacity to develop evidence‑based macro‑economic and health‑financing policies for African member states.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct high‑quality research, econometric analysis, and macro‑economic modelling to assess health‑financing impacts.
• Develop and apply Social Accounting Matrices (SAM) integrating the System of Health Accounts (SHA) with the System of National Accounts (SNA).
• Utilise macro‑fiscal frameworks and economy‑wide modelling tools such as Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) and Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) models.
• Prepare background studies, literature reviews, empirical assessments, policy simulations, and analytical reports.
• Support policy dialogue and sustainable development planning across selected African countries.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Economics, Public Health, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in macro‑economic modelling and health‑financing analysis.
• Strong analytical and quantitative skills with a track record of producing policy‑oriented outputs.
• Ability to work collaboratively with ECA staff and member‑state officials.
