Data Visualization Intern

About the role

The Office of the Special Envoy of the Secretary‑General on the Great Lakes Region is seeking a Data Visualization Intern to support its peace‑building and development work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the wider Great Lakes area. This six‑month, unpaid internship is based in Addis Ababa and offers hands‑on experience with data collection, analysis, and visual communication in an international UN environment.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain databases and data‑collection systems to improve statistical efficiency.
• Analyze trends and patterns using statistical methods and contribute to the interpretation of structured data sources.
• Develop process‑improvement mechanisms for data‑analytics tasks, including data cleaning and acquisition.
• Create reports, dashboards, and basic visualisation outputs to summarise findings for management.
• Track progress of department‑specific data initiatives and report on outcomes.
• Assist with data collection, initial analysis, and the production of data‑driven products such as reports or newsletters.

Required profile

• Unpaid, full‑time internship (40 hours per week) for a six‑month period.
• Based in Addis Ababa and able to work onsite under the supervision of the Program Manager.
• Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural UN setting.
