National Trade Expert Consultant for Liberia

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) seeks a National Consultant‑Trade Expert to support Liberia’s implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). Working remotely for five months, the consultant will produce a practical Step‑by‑Step Guide to help Liberian businesses, especially MSMEs, women and youth traders, navigate trade procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a detailed Step‑by‑Step Guide covering tariff treatment, rules of origin, permits, standards, customs, logistics and border processes.
• Map and validate trade procedures in collaboration with government and private‑sector stakeholders.
• Enhance the capacity of exporters and importers to apply AfCFTA requirements effectively.
• Provide a shared, validated reference that improves regulatory transparency and institutional coordination.
• Support the National Strategy for AfCFTA implementation (2025‑2030) by aligning guidance with strategic objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience in trade policy, AfCFTA implementation or related economic integration initiatives.
• Demonstrated ability to work with government agencies, private‑sector entities and MSMEs.
• Strong analytical and capacity‑building skills, with a focus on practical guidance for traders.
• Excellent written communication in English.
