Gender in Humanitarian Action Specialist

About the role

UN Women Ethiopia is seeking a Gender in Humanitarian Action Specialist to support the integration of gender perspectives across the humanitarian, development and peace nexus. The specialist will work closely with the Ethiopia Humanitarian Country Team and national partners to ensure that women and girls are central to all programming cycles.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical expertise to the Humanitarian Country Team on gender mainstreaming and compliance with IASC gender commitments.
• Facilitate and convene national and sub‑national inter‑cluster and inter‑sector GiHA working groups chaired by the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs and the Disaster Risk Management Commission.
• Promote meaningful participation and leadership of women’s organisations in humanitarian response.
• Support the development and implementation of gender‑responsive strategies, tools and guidelines for emergency response.
• Monitor and report on gender outcomes within the UN Women Strategic Note outcomes related to humanitarian action.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in gender studies, humanitarian affairs, international development or a related field.
• Significant experience in gender mainstreaming within humanitarian contexts, preferably with UN agencies or NGOs.
• Strong knowledge of UN gender policies, IASC commitments and the humanitarian programming cycle.
• Excellent coordination and facilitation skills with government ministries and multi‑stakeholder groups.
