Anesthetist / Clinical Anesthesia Officer

About the role

The Anesthetist / Clinical Anesthesia Officer provides safe and effective anesthesia care for surgical patients at CURE Children’s Hospital of Ethiopia. The role includes pre‑operative assessment, intra‑operative management, and post‑operative support for a diverse patient population.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑operative assessments and document findings in patient records.
• Inform senior medical staff of patients requiring additional treatment or who are unstable.
• Explain the planned anesthetic, its risks, and answer patient questions.
• Check and prepare the anesthesia machine, suction, oxygen supply, airway devices, medications and resuscitative drugs before each case.
• Provide monitoring and care for procedures using local, regional, sedation, or general anesthesia.
• Maintain accurate records of observations and anesthesia delivered.
• Deliver emergency resuscitation when needed.
• Teach and train other staff members and act as a consultant to hospital departments.

Required profile

• Qualified to practice anesthesia in Ethiopia.
• Capable of performing comprehensive pre‑operative assessments.
• Effective communicator with patients regarding anesthesia plans.
• Ready to respond to emergencies and provide resuscitation.
