Custodian – Facilities Maintenance

About the role

We are looking for a reliable Custodian to join our facilities team in Addis Ababa. The role involves keeping Church buildings clean, safe and welcoming for worship, teaching and community activities.

Key responsibilities

• Perform journey‑level custodial duties across assigned areas, ensuring they meet the Church’s standards of reverence and dignity.
• Clean, dust, mop, vacuum and buffer floors; operate carpet‑cleaning machines and other equipment.
• Remove and replace draperies, chandeliers, lights and set up meeting rooms as requested.
• Handle cleaning agents and chemicals using appropriate safety gear, and report any issues to the supervisor.
• Maintain good public relations with building users and assist with minor hand‑tool or motor‑tool tasks.

Required profile

• Current temple recommend holder (religious eligibility).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lb, push loaded carts, bend, crawl and reach as needed.
• Proficient in English for verbal and written communication, video training and safety instructions.
• Willingness to complete safety and equipment‑usage training.

Required skills

• Operating buffers, carpet cleaners, vacuums and other motorised cleaning equipment.
• Using hand tools and motorised tools for basic maintenance tasks.
• Safe handling of cleaning chemicals with gloves, masks or other protective equipment.
