Driver – Assosa, Ethiopia

About the role

The Driver will ensure safe and reliable transport of NRC staff, visitors, equipment and goods to approved destinations in and around Assosa. This position supports humanitarian operations by providing essential mobility in a challenging environment.

Key responsibilities

• Transport staff, visitors, documents and materials to designated locations while adhering to NRC approvals.
• Maintain vehicle safety, conduct pre‑ and post‑trip checks, and report any accidents or breakdowns immediately.
• Keep the vehicle logbook up to date and ensure the vehicle is clean, fueled and serviced according to schedule.
• Provide logistical support during trainings, workshops and emergency operations.
• Ensure all passengers wear safety belts and that mobile phones are not used while driving.
• Follow local traffic regulations and NRC vehicle policies at all times.

Required profile

• Completed 8‑12th grade education and a valid Grade 3 driver’s licence.
• Minimum four years of driving experience in humanitarian or complex, volatile contexts.
• Basic knowledge of English and the local language.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, travel to remote areas and live in basic field conditions.

Required skills

• Valid driver’s licence and ability to operate the assigned vehicle safely.
• Vehicle maintenance and basic mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of local traffic and road‑transport regulations.
