Finance Director

About the role

Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is seeking a Finance Director to lead financial management for two USG‑funded projects in Ethiopia (AFGHS and SCS). Reporting to the Senior Director for Finance & Administration, the role oversees budgeting, forecasting, cash management, accounting and reporting, and supervises the country finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate annual work‑plan budgets, life‑of‑project forecasts and periodic re‑forecasts, consolidating technical and operational inputs.
• Oversee daily accounting operations, including transaction coding, journal entries, reconciliations, month‑end close, and accounts payable/receivable.
• Prepare monthly cash forecasts, monitor liquidity and flag projected shortfalls or excess cash.
• Implement internal controls, monitor compliance with USG financial requirements and MSH policies, and support audit preparation.
• Directly supervise finance and accounting staff, set goals, provide coaching and allocate workloads.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 7 years of progressive financial management experience in international development, including supervising staff.
• Experience supporting USG‑funded projects and applying USG financial compliance requirements in Ethiopia.

Required skills

• Advanced QuickBooks Online proficiency.
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data extraction, filtering, sorting).
• Experience with Costpoint or similar enterprise financial systems.
• Strong analytical, planning and problem‑solving abilities.
• Fluency in English and Amharic (additional Ethiopian language a plus).
