Gender Equality & Social Inclusion Advisor (Remote Volunteer)

About the role

The Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Advisor will support Hiwot Ethiopia’s team in Addis Ababa to integrate gender equality and social inclusion principles across programmes and operations. The role focuses on strengthening capacity in gender audits, policy development, gender‑responsive project design, implementation and knowledge sharing.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the organization’s gender and social inclusion programmes and develop activities to promote equality.
• Provide technical support to management and staff for implementing gender‑responsive and inclusive strategies.
• Conduct gender audits, review policies and ensure integration across all operational areas.
• Collaborate with the resource mobilisation team to design gender‑sensitive project plans.
• Offer capacity‑building assistance to Hiwot and partner organisations through training, mentoring and coaching.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, International Development or related field (Master’s degree is an asset).
• Minimum three years of relevant experience, including at least one year at the international level.
• Proven experience conducting gender audits, designing policies and monitoring gender‑focused programmes.
• Background working with multilateral or bilateral development institutions in developing countries.
• Demonstrated ability to mobilise resources responsive to gender and social inclusion issues.
