Medical Laboratory Technologist

About the role

The Medical Laboratory Technologist will work full‑time on site at Haramaya University’s laboratory in Addis Ababa, performing routine and specialized tests that support clinical diagnosis and research projects. The role involves handling specimens, operating equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation of results while maintaining high safety and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, receive, and process patient specimens.
• Perform routine and specialized laboratory analyses according to standard protocols.
• Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Document and validate test results, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting.
• Implement and monitor quality control procedures, including calibration and verification.
• Follow laboratory safety, infection prevention, and waste disposal guidelines.
• Collaborate with medical, academic, and research staff to interpret findings.
• Assist in training students or junior staff and contribute to workflow improvements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Laboratory Science or a related field from an accredited institution.
• Strong foundation in medical technology and laboratory medicine.
• Experience in hospital or academic laboratory settings.
• Knowledge of national or international laboratory standards and safety protocols.
• Attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ethical professional conduct.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
