Midwifery Nurse (MHNT) – Moyale

About the role

The Midwifery Nurse (MHNT) will support Save the Children’s emergency programmes in Afar, focusing on accountability to beneficiaries and empowering communities. The role works closely with the MEAL Coordinator and project staff to establish and maintain health and nutrition accountability mechanisms.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and facilitate mobile health and nutrition activities, including site selection and weekly movement planning.
• Provide basic health and nutrition services such as community ANC, family planning, IMNCI/ICCM, safe motherhood, emergency care, referrals, health education and EPI following MOH guidelines.
• Facilitate the supply of essential drugs, therapeutic products and job aids to health facilities and community health workers.
• Organise daily, weekly and monthly reporting on ANC, FP, EPI, health education and consultations, and verify weekly reports from HEWs.
• Ensure effective referral systems and linkage between community services and health facilities.
• Provide onsite training and mentorship to Health Extension Workers (HEWs) and nurses, including decision‑making support for severe cases.
• Participate in capacity‑building sessions, health education activities and follow‑up of absentees or defaulters.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor degree in Midwifery.
• Minimum three years of relevant experience, with at least two years in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) programmes.
• Clinical experience in maternal and child health settings is mandatory.
