Principal Frontend Development Officer

About the role

We are seeking a Principal Frontend Development Officer to lead the design and implementation of complex backend systems that support our financial services platform. The role combines strategic architecture with hands‑on development, ensuring scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions across our micro‑services ecosystem.

Key responsibilities

• Define and drive backend architecture and technical design for large‑scale features, establishing patterns for long‑term system integrity.
• Guide the backend development team on best practices, conduct design reviews, and mentor engineers to raise technical competence.
• Architect and implement integrations between core banking, digital channels, payment switches, and partner platforms, maintaining security, performance, and data consistency.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex distributed‑system issues, applying performance analysis and root‑cause investigation.
• Identify process inefficiencies and lead continuous improvement of development tooling and workflows.
• Represent the backend perspective in cross‑functional architecture reviews and planning sessions.

Required profile

• First degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in backend development and architecture.
• Strong analytical mindset with a proven ability to design robust, secure solutions for the financial sector.

Required skills

• Java 17+ (records, sealed classes, pattern matching, virtual threads)
• Spring Boot ecosystem – Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security, Spring Cloud/micro‑services patterns
• RESTful API design, versioning, and secure API‑gateway integration
• BPMN engines such as Camunda or Activiti
• Micro‑services architecture, service decomposition, inter‑service communication (REST, gRPC, messaging), circuit breakers, resilience patterns
• USSD system development and gateway integration
• Internet Banking development – secure transaction processing, session/token management, multi‑factor authentication
• API design for Flutter‑based mobile app back‑ends
