Quality Assurance Officer – Surgical Programs

About the role

The Quality Assurance Officer will support the CIFF Project by assessing surgical outcomes, leading trachomatous trichiasis (TT) surgical audits, and ensuring IECW trainings comply with WHO and ICTC guidelines. Reporting to the Program Lead, the role is based in Hawassa with travel to various Orbis project sites.

Key responsibilities

• Support Field Coordinators and Project Managers in documenting TT surgical outcomes at day 1, days 7‑14, and 3‑6 months post‑operation.
• Lead TT surgical audits, submit timely findings, and coordinate data verification.
• Ensure IECW trainings follow WHO and ICTC standards and coordinate supportive supervision.
• Assist Field Coordinators in improving TT surgery outputs through outreach and mobile teams.
• Identify IECWs needing further training and train strong IECWs as supervisors and outreach coordinators.
• Mentor partner staff on TT surgery recording, reporting, and use of smartphones/scanners for biometry data.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual TT SA, SS, and DQA reports against targets.
• Participate in regional and zonal quality‑assurance meetings and manage related petty‑cash.

Required profile

• MPH with at least five years of experience or BSc in Public Health with at least seven years of experience.
• Strong experience in TT surgery and quality assurance; ophthalmic nursing training preferred.
• Experience in blindness prevention or trachoma programs is an advantage.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse cultural backgrounds.
