Senior Accountant – SSA Cluster 2

About the role

The Senior Accountant will lead financial accounting activities for the British Council across Ethiopia and the wider SSA Cluster 2 (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Sudan, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique). Working closely with a Managed Service Provider, you will ensure accurate, timely reporting and compliance with corporate policies.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee finance administration, including Purchase to Pay (P2P), Order to Cash (O2C), Record to Report (R2R) and Cash & Liquidity Management (CLM) processes.
• Lead country‑level tax reporting, statutory filing and compliance across the cluster.
• Coordinate with the MSP to guarantee correct account preparation and timely financial statements.
• Support audit processes, cash‑flow reporting and finance queries from operational teams.
• Provide line‑management to the local Accountant, ensuring consistent standards and delivery.
• Assist business units in embedding new finance ways of working post‑transformation.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior accounting or finance roles, preferably within multinational organisations.
• Strong knowledge of tax compliance, statutory reporting and audit procedures.
• Proven ability to manage relationships with external service providers.
• Legal right to work in Ethiopia; no relocation or visa support provided.
