Senior Tree Expansion Research Officer (Fixed-Term)

About the role

The Senior Tree Expansion Research Officer will support One Acre Fund’s Ethiopia Trees Program by conducting desk research, gathering primary data, and validating findings through field scouting. This role combines analytical work with on‑the‑ground verification to identify and assess expansion opportunities across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct desk research and analyze agricultural, environmental, demographic, market and policy data to identify potential expansion areas.
• Develop and maintain databases, trackers and research documentation for expansion planning.
• Participate in field scouting visits to validate desk research findings and gather additional insights.
• Engage with government offices, development partners and local stakeholders to verify data and assumptions.
• Assess expansion criteria such as agroforestry suitability, water availability, market potential and operational feasibility.
• Prepare evidence‑based assessment reports, analytical summaries and recommendations for the expansion team.
• Support stakeholder engagement, coordination of information gathering and documentation of lessons learned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (preferred fields: Forestry, Agroforestry, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Geography, Rural Development, Watershed Management).
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in forestry, agroforestry, agriculture, landscape restoration or related fields.
• Experience conducting research, data collection, expansion or market assessments, and working with government or development partners.
• Willingness to travel to rural and remote locations for field scouting.
• Fluency in English and Amharic; proficiency in Afaan Oromo is a plus.
