WASH Officer (Technical Assistance) – 6‑month contract

About the role

The WASH Officer will support UNICEF’s emergency preparedness and response activities in the Amhara region, reporting to the WASH Specialist. This six‑month position focuses on delivering technical assistance for water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) interventions that protect children, mothers and affected communities during crises.

Key responsibilities

• Draft and update WASH situation analyses to inform programme planning.
• Research and report on WASH trends to guide programme development, monitoring and evaluation.
• Prepare technical reports, inputs and documentation ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Contribute to the design of WASH‑related outcomes, outputs and strategies based on sector needs.
• Provide technical and administrative support throughout all programming stages, including transaction processing, material preparation and compliance with UNICEF systems.
• Monitor programme progress, evaluate results and produce regular reports for stakeholders.

Required profile

• Ethiopian national with a relevant university degree (e.g., Water Supply, Sanitation, Public Health).
• Experience in WASH emergency response or humanitarian settings.
• Knowledge of UNICEF WASH guidelines and humanitarian standards.
• Strong analytical, reporting and documentation skills.
• Fluency in English and Amharic; ability to work in field conditions.
