Area Manager – North Area Office

About the role

The Area Manager is a senior representative of Save the Children in the North region of Ethiopia, leading multiple field and project offices. Based in Dessie, the role combines strategic oversight, operational management, and partnership building across a diverse portfolio of humanitarian programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage two or more field offices and associated project teams, overseeing up to 130 staff members.
• Develop and implement area‑level strategies, annual operational plans and ensure compliance with Save the Children core business processes.
• Manage an annual budget exceeding USD 7 million and supervise more than 15 active donor awards.
• Coordinate with Country Office units (PDQ, HR, Finance, Safety & Security) and ensure seamless collaboration with field managers.
• Represent Save the Children in external meetings, strengthen partnerships with donors, government and NGOs.
• Travel regularly to field sites and be available for emergency response outside normal working hours.

Required profile

• Extensive experience managing large, multi‑disciplinary humanitarian programmes.
• Proven ability to lead sizable teams and large budgets.
• Strong understanding of Save the Children policies, child safeguarding and anti‑fraud compliance.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
