Area Manager – North Area Office

About the role

The Area Manager is a senior representative of Save the Children in Ethiopia, leading the North Area Office that covers Amhara, Tigray and Afar regions. Based in Dassie, the role oversees multiple field and project offices, ensuring effective implementation of humanitarian programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage up to 130 staff across seven direct reports, including Field Managers and functional leads in Finance, Supply Chain, HR/Admin, and Safety & Security.
• Oversee an annual budget exceeding $7 million and manage more than 15 active awards from bilateral and multilateral donors.
• Develop and implement area strategies, operational plans, and core business processes in line with Save the Children policies.
• Coordinate with Country Office units (PDQ, HR, Finance, Safety & Security) and ensure compliance with fraud, bribery, and child safeguarding policies.
• Represent the organization in humanitarian emergencies, adapting working hours and responsibilities as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior programme or operations management within humanitarian or development contexts.
• Proven ability to manage large budgets and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of child safeguarding, fraud prevention, and compliance requirements.
• Willingness to travel frequently to field sites and work in challenging environments.
