Area Manager – South-Central Area Office

About the role

The Area Manager is a senior representative of Save the Children in Ethiopia, leading the South‑Central Area Office. Reporting to the Director of Program Operations, the role oversees three or more field offices, manages a staff of over 80, and is accountable for a budget exceeding USD 5 million.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and day‑to‑day oversight of field and project offices in Oromia and Sidama.
• Ensure effective implementation of programmes across Health, Nutrition, WASH, Education, Food Security, Livelihoods, Child Protection and Governance.
• Manage and develop senior staff, including Field Managers and functional leads (Finance, Supply Chain, HR/Admin, Safety & Security).
• Coordinate with Country Office units (PDQ, HR, Finance, Safety & Security) to align operational plans and reporting.
• Oversee budget planning, financial monitoring and compliance with donor requirements for more than eight active awards.
• Maintain adherence to Save the Children policies on child safeguarding, fraud, bribery, and conflict of interest.
• Respond to humanitarian emergencies, adapting working hours and duties as needed.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian or development programme management.
• Proven track record managing large teams and multi‑million‑dollar budgets.
• Strong knowledge of sectoral areas such as Health, Nutrition, WASH, Education, Food Security and Child Protection.
• Ability to travel frequently within the South‑Central region and work under emergency conditions.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
