Area Manager – South-Central Area Office

About the role

The Area Manager is a senior representative of Save the Children in Ethiopia, leading the South‑Central Area Office and overseeing multiple field and project offices. Reporting to the Director of Program Operations, the role ensures high‑quality delivery of programmes across health, nutrition, WASH, education, food security, and child protection.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage three or more field offices and project sites, supervising field managers and functional leads.
• Develop and implement area‑level strategies, annual operational plans, and ensure consistent application of core business processes.
• Oversee a budget exceeding USD 5 million and manage more than eight active donor awards.
• Coordinate closely with Country Office units (PDQ, HR, Finance, Safety & Security) to align programme delivery.
• Maintain strong partnerships with local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders.
• Travel regularly to field locations and be available for emergency response outside normal hours.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in senior programme or operations management within the humanitarian sector.
• Proven ability to manage large budgets and multi‑disciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of Save the Children policies, child safeguarding Level 2, and compliance requirements.
• Willingness to travel frequently across Oromia, Sidama and potentially other regions.
