About the role

The Chief of the African Climate Policy Section leads the development and implementation of macro‑economic and structural policy options that accelerate diversification and job creation across Africa. Reporting to the Director of the Climate Change, Food Security and Natural Resources Division, the role supports the ECA’s mission to deliver knowledge‑based solutions aligned with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2063.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership for the African Climate Policy Section, overseeing policy research, analysis and advocacy.
• Develop and promote macro‑economic policy frameworks that enhance climate resilience and sustainable growth.
• Design innovative financing models for infrastructure, human, physical and social assets.
• Coordinate with regional partners to address transboundary challenges, including peace, security and social inclusion.
• Represent the ECA in high‑level forums, advocating Africa’s position on global governance issues.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in economics, public policy, or a related field.
• Extensive senior‑level experience (typically 10+ years) in economic policy, climate policy, or international development.
• Demonstrated expertise in macro‑economic analysis, structural reforms and financing mechanisms.
• Strong understanding of the African development context and UN system.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
