Compliance and Systems Director – Ethiopia

About the role

The Compliance and Systems Director (CSD) is a senior member of the Ethiopia country programme management team, reporting to the Country Director. Based in Addis Ababa, the CSD ensures that People in Need’s operations comply with donor requirements, internal policies and local regulations while overseeing the core support functions of logistics, procurement, finance and human resources.

Key responsibilities

• Provide guidance and oversight on the interpretation and implementation of donor contractual obligations and internal compliance procedures.
• Lead and improve the country’s logistics, procurement, finance and HR systems to meet accountability standards.
• Supervise the Heads of Finance, Operations and HR (or equivalent roles) and ensure effective coordination across these functions.
• Develop and deliver capacity‑building programmes for staff on compliance, systems and operational best practices.
• Collaborate closely with the Country Director, Regional Head of Systems and Operations, and programme managers to create an enabling environment for programme delivery.

Required profile

• Significant experience in compliance, systems management or operational leadership within the humanitarian or development sector.
• Strong knowledge of donor regulations, procurement standards and financial accountability frameworks.
• Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and drive cross‑functional improvements.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a results‑oriented mindset.
