Consultant for African ESG Framework and Compact Development

About the role

The Economic Commission for Africa seeks an expert consultant to lead the next phase of the African ESG Framework and Compact development. The consultant will build on existing analytical work, drive co‑development with Member States, and support climate‑related activities ahead of COP32.

Key responsibilities

• Review and enhance the inception report, standards mapping and stakeholder inputs, identifying remaining technical gaps.
• Lead drafting and refinement of the African ESG Framework, including principles, pillars, indicators, reporting and monitoring provisions.
• Develop the African ESG Compact, defining practical commitments for governments, private sector and civil society.
• Design and manage the continental co‑development process, facilitating Technical Working Group activities and Member State consultations.
• Assess capacity needs and create a modular ESG training curriculum with accompanying materials and workshops.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in ESG policy development, sustainable finance or climate action at continental or multilateral level.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑stakeholder processes and produce technical documents for policy adoption.
• Strong understanding of African development priorities such as green minerals, just transition and industrialisation.
• Excellent communication skills for briefing senior officials and diverse audiences.
