Country Economist Consultant – Ethiopia

About the role

The International Finance Corporation is seeking a Country Economist Consultant to join its Country Advisory and Economics Team for the Eastern and Southern Africa region. Based in Addis Ababa, you will provide economic analysis, support country strategy development, and help shape private‑sector diagnostics for Ethiopia and surrounding markets.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct macro‑economic and sectoral assessments to inform IFC’s investment strategy.
• Prepare Country Private Sector Diagnostics (CPSDs) and contribute to IFC Country Strategies.
• Collaborate with regional and industry colleagues across the World Bank Group to produce analytical products.
• Support advisory projects that address obstacles to private‑sector growth in low‑income and fragile contexts.
• Provide input for IBRD/IDA policy operations based on country‑level diagnostics.

Required profile

• Advanced degree in Economics, Development Studies, or a related field.
• Strong background in macro‑economic analysis and private‑sector development.
• Experience working on country‑level diagnostics or strategy formulation, preferably in emerging markets.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Economic modelling and quantitative analysis.
• Data interpretation and report writing.
• Familiarity with World Bank Group analytical frameworks.
