Cyber Security Engineer

About the role

The International Society for Genetic Eye Disease is seeking a full‑time Cyber Security Engineer to join its team in Bishoftu. You will protect critical medical and research data by monitoring security events, analysing threats, and implementing robust security controls.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor security events, perform threat analysis and respond to incidents.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments, prioritize findings and coordinate remediation.
• Design and maintain secure network architectures, firewalls and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to embed security into software development and ensure compliance with information‑security standards.
• Create and maintain security documentation, policies and incident‑response procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Professional certifications such as Security+, CISSP, CEH or similar are a plus.
• Proven experience with incident response, log analysis and security monitoring tools.
• Strong ethical standards and ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Application security: secure coding practices, threat modeling.
• Cybersecurity fundamentals: risk assessment, policy development, security framework implementation.
• Network security: firewall configuration, IDS/IPS, secure network design.
• Vulnerability assessment: scanning, prioritisation, remediation coordination.
