Cyber Security Specialist

About the role

Woldia University, a public higher education institution in North Wollo, is strengthening its technology and security capabilities to support teaching, research and administration. It is hiring a full-time, on-site Cyber Security Specialist to monitor and secure the university's networks, systems and applications against cyber threats.

Key responsibilities

• Assess vulnerabilities, implement security controls and manage firewalls and intrusion detection systems
• Respond to security incidents and review and improve security policies
• Conduct regular risk assessments and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
• Collaborate with IT teams, train staff on security best practices and prepare reports and documentation on cybersecurity activities

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity or a related field
• Advanced certifications such as CEH, CISSP or CompTIA Security+ are an asset
• Experience with enterprise operating systems (Linux, Windows), databases and cloud or virtualized environments is beneficial
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail and ability to work with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to explain technical security issues to non-technical people and to document procedures and incident reports accurately

Required skills

• Cybersecurity and information security, including risk assessment and security policy development
• Network security: firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems and secure network design
• Application security: secure coding practices, vulnerability scanning and remediation
• General cyber skills: threat analysis, incident response and familiarity with security frameworks and standards
