Deputy Country Director for Ethiopia

About the role

The Deputy Country Director for Ethiopia will support the Country Director in leading People in Need’s humanitarian and development programmes across Ethiopia. Based in Addis Ababa, the role combines strategic oversight, programme quality assurance and external representation to ensure impact, compliance and alignment with national and international priorities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction for all PIN programmes in Ethiopia, ensuring relevance, quality and compliance with organisational policies.
• Represent PIN with national authorities, donors, partners and coordination platforms, strengthening relationships and advocating for the organisation’s approach.
• Lead the development and implementation of the country strategy in line with the Relief and Development Department’s vision.
• Identify and pursue new funding opportunities and partnerships.
• Manage programme risks and supervise programme managers, advisors and consortium managers in design and delivery.
• Oversee human‑resource management and staff development within the programme unit.
• Act as legal representative of PIN in the Country Director’s absence.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian or development programming, preferably in Ethiopia or similar contexts.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
• Strong understanding of donor requirements, compliance frameworks and risk management.
• Excellent strategic planning and decision‑making skills.
