Disaster Risk Management Advisor – Ethiopia

About the role

The Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Advisor will provide senior strategic leadership for People in Need’s DRM, Early Warning System (EWS) and Anticipatory Action (AA) portfolio in Ethiopia. Reporting to the Country Director, the Advisor will shape the organisation’s positioning within the national DRM ecosystem, ensure alignment with donor strategies and national priorities, and oversee the quality and compliance of all related programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement the strategic roadmap for DRM, EWS and AA across the Ethiopia country programme.
• Represent People in Need in national technical working groups, including the EDRMC’s EWS and AA forums.
• Provide technical oversight, quality assurance and compliance monitoring for all DRM‑related activities.
• Lead the preparation of project proposals and support the implementation of DRM interventions.
• Advise senior management on partnership building, donor engagement and strategic planning in the DRM sector.

Required profile

• Extensive experience (minimum 8 years) in disaster risk management, early warning systems or related humanitarian fields.
• Proven track record of senior‑level strategic leadership and stakeholder engagement at national and donor levels.
• Strong understanding of Ethiopia’s DRM architecture, climate risk governance and humanitarian coordination mechanisms.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with fluency in English.
