About the role
The International Detention Coalition (IDC) is looking for an East Africa Programme Officer based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, reporting to the Africa Regional Manager. - Support IDC's mission in the Africa region, with a focus on East Africa, and help build networks with members, partners and decision-makers.
- Support advocacy strategies on immigration detention, alternatives to detention and migrant and refugee rights, and draft and share advocacy materials and briefing notes.
- Engage with stakeholders such as government representatives, civil society, UN agencies and regional networks, and help plan consultations, trainings and regional events.
- Develop print and digital communication materials, including social media content, and monitor media coverage in the region.
- Contribute to fundraising by researching potential funders and drafting proposals, and support monitoring, evaluation and learning, reporting and budget tracking.
Required profile
- University degree in a relevant field such as international relations, law, migration studies, political science or social sciences.
- At least five years of professional experience in project coordination, stakeholder engagement and advocacy in the migration and/or human rights sectors.
- Experience in reporting and follow-up, including MEL processes.
- Resides in Ethiopia with the legal right to work; fluency in English and Amharic is mandatory, with Somali and/or Arabic an added advantage.
- Willingness to travel within the region and to work remotely and autonomously.
Applications with a resume and a cover letter in English must be submitted through the IDC careers page by 8 November 2026; only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
