Economic Affairs Officer

About the role

The Economic Affairs Officer will join the Macroeconomic Analysis, Institutions & Economic Governance Section of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) in Addis Ababa. Reporting to the Section Chief, the incumbent will support African Member States in strengthening macro‑economic management, economic governance and public finance.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor economic developments in assigned regions and identify emerging issues relevant to the UN agenda.
• Conduct sectoral and macro‑economic analysis to inform policy options for diversification, job creation and sustainable growth.
• Provide technical advisory services and capacity‑development support to member‑state institutions.
• Contribute to the Division’s analytical, normative and operational work, including policy research and preparation of briefing notes.
• Support regional intergovernmental processes and the development of innovative financing models.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in economics, development studies or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in macro‑economic analysis, policy research or economic governance.
• Familiarity with African economic contexts and development challenges.
• Strong analytical writing and communication skills in English.
