Finance Specialist – Control and Compliance

About the role

The Finance Specialist – Control and Compliance will support the Senior Finance Manager in ensuring robust financial management systems for Save the Children Ethiopia. The role focuses on financial controls, compliance, tax matters and audit coordination for a portfolio of approximately USD 50 million.

Key responsibilities

• Amortise staff and vehicle insurance pre‑payments on a monthly basis.
• Process HQ transactions from London accurately and timely.
• Coordinate with member focal points to clear account 11780.
• Perform online bank reconciliations following the Global Finance Manual.
• Complete Single Account Reconciliation (SAR) of balance‑sheet and control accounts each month and at year‑end.
• Manage balance‑sheet accounts and provide monthly status reports.
• Assist with AL and TG reconciliations on a regular basis.
• Organise orientation sessions on current and emerging local tax requirements.
• Prepare and reconcile monthly VAT schedules, recover eligible VAT and re‑classify rejected balances.
• Conduct analytical reviews of taxes and deductions, advising on improvements.
• Ensure proper filing of VAT documentation in both soft and hard copy.
• Oversee timely remittance of withholding taxes.
• Support local and KPMG statutory audits, focusing on proactive financial controls to prevent donor disallowances.
• Assist in managing project audit processes with external auditors.

Required profile

• Proven experience in finance controls and compliance within a large‑scale development or humanitarian organization.
• Strong knowledge of Ethiopian tax legislation, VAT and withholding tax procedures.
• Ability to manage balance‑sheet accounts, perform reconciliations and prepare audit documentation.
• Familiarity with donor reporting requirements and audit processes.
• Excellent analytical and documentation skills.
