Gender, Equality & Inclusion Specialist

About the role

Plan International is seeking a Gender, Equality & Inclusion Specialist to drive gender‑transformative approaches across its programmes in Ethiopia. The role will support the implementation of the organisation’s strategy by mainstreaming gender equality and inclusion in all projects and strengthening initiatives that empower girls, women and persons with disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical support for the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of gender‑responsive programmes.
• Ensure all project activities are gender‑transformative and align with Plan International’s Gender Policy.
• Develop guidelines, tools and systems for gender mainstreaming and allocate budgets for gender‑equality activities.
• Deliver capacity‑building trainings for staff and partners on gender equality, budgeting and inclusive methodologies.
• Lead partnership development with NGOs, government bodies and other stakeholders to mobilise resources and share best practices.
• Monitor and report on gender and inclusion indicators, preparing narrative and financial reports for donors.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Social Work or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in gender and development programmes, including community‑level projects.
• Proven experience in gender advocacy, networking and training delivery.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Understanding of safeguarding and gender equality & inclusion policies and ability to apply them in daily work.
