General Manager – Power Generation

About the role

This executive position leads a strategically important utility‑scale power generation asset in East Africa. Reporting directly to the Board, the General Manager is accountable for operational excellence, commercial performance, and sustainable long‑term growth while engaging with shareholders, regulators, lenders and strategic partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and overall direction for the business.
• Lead and develop the executive and senior management teams.
• Ensure safe, reliable and efficient operation of the power plant, overseeing maintenance, engineering and asset integrity.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reliability, availability and efficiency.
• Lead budgeting, financial planning and performance management, overseeing both operational and capital expenditures.
• Support commercial negotiations and strategic business initiatives.
• Build and maintain relationships with government authorities, regulators, utilities, financiers and other key stakeholders.
• Ensure high standards of corporate governance, ethics, compliance and ESG performance.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading large‑scale power generation assets in Africa or other emerging markets.
• Demonstrated ability to operate in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
• Strong commercial acumen combined with world‑class operational expertise.
• Excellent governance, risk management and stakeholder engagement skills.
