Laboratory Technician - Construction Materials Testing

About the role

Rama Construction collaborates with consulting engineers, architects and contractors to deliver construction projects, and is hiring a Laboratory Technician for a full-time, on-site position in Addis Ababa. The technician performs routine and specialized tests on construction materials such as concrete, aggregates and soil, in line with relevant standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and specialized tests on construction materials, including sampling, preparation and analysis of concrete, aggregates, soil and other materials according to relevant standards.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Record and interpret test results and prepare clear reports for engineers, architects and site supervisors.
• Support quality control procedures and ensure compliance with regulatory and project requirements.
• Communicate promptly any deviations or issues and provide accurate data that informs design decisions, construction methods and material approvals.

Required profile

• Ideally prior experience as a laboratory technician in construction, civil engineering or related fields.
• Diploma or degree in civil engineering, construction technology, materials science or a related discipline preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to manage several tests and tasks in a fast-paced project environment.
• Commitment to safety, ethical conduct and collaboration with engineers, architects, contractors and site personnel.

Required skills

• Hands-on experience with standard test methods and procedures for construction materials.
• Experience with laboratory equipment and tools, including calibration, safe operation and basic troubleshooting.
• Quality control skills, following established protocols and supporting compliance with industry and project standards.
• Analytical skills to interpret test data, identify trends or anomalies and communicate findings clearly.
