Lead – Diagnostics Highway, IIH Project, Ethiopia

About the role

PATH is recruiting a Lead for the Diagnostics Highway under its Integrated Innovation Highway (IIH) project in Ethiopia, a Gates Foundation-funded initiative supporting the Government of Ethiopia and the Ministry of Health in adopting health innovations. The role provides technical leadership and operational coordination for the assessment, introduction, implementation and transition-to-scale of priority diagnostic innovations, initially focusing on near-point-of-care TB PlusLife and Ebola diagnostics. It is based in Addis Ababa, seconded to the Ministry of Health, with regular travel to Regional Health Bureaus and Regional Public Health Institutes in Oromia, Sidama and Somali regions, and reports to the IIH Project Director.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for planning and implementing the Diagnostics Highway in line with IIH objectives, Ministry of Health priorities and national diagnostic strategies
• Lead regional and facility-level readiness assessments for TB PlusLife and Ebola diagnostics, covering algorithms, workflows, equipment, workforce, biosafety, quality assurance and supply
• Support implementation guidance, standard operating procedures, training materials and site prioritization
• Coordinate technical implementation of TB PlusLife and other near-point-of-care diagnostics, including device placement, commissioning, training and monitoring of performance
• Coordinate Ebola diagnostic introduction and public health emergency preparedness, including testing workflows, specimen handling, referral and transport, and surveillance sites
• Work with the Ministry of Health, EPHI, the National TB Program, RHBs, RPHIs, laboratories and health facilities on testing access, result reporting and linkage to care
• Coordinate with the IIH Project Director and other technical leads, and contribute to technical governance meetings
