Level I Trauma Registrar (Remote, Full‑time or Part‑time)

About the role

The Level I Trauma Registrar provides advanced clinical data abstraction for a Level I Trauma Center, supporting registry participation, research, performance improvement, and regulatory compliance. This remote position can be full‑time or part‑time and requires independent work in a high‑acuity trauma environment.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, analyze, and abstract trauma patient data from EHRs, operative reports, EMS documentation, and ancillary systems.
• Enter detailed injury and care information into the trauma registry database, capturing mechanism of injury, severity, interventions, complications, and outcomes.
• Assign Injury Severity Scores using AIS methodology and code diagnoses and procedures with ICD‑10‑CM and ICD‑10‑PCS.
• Abstract complex cases including multisystem trauma, transfers, deaths, and research‑eligible patients.
• Participate in quality assurance processes, data validation, audits, and preparation for ACS verification or state review.
• Collaborate with trauma program leadership and clinical staff to clarify documentation and support program goals.

Required profile

• Experience working in a Level I Trauma Center.
• Advanced understanding of trauma systems, injury scoring, and registry rules.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with strong clinical documentation interpretation.
• Exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting productivity and quality standards.
• Current completion of Trauma Registry Course, AAAM AIS Coding Course, and an ICD‑10 coding course within the last five years.
• Preferred certifications: CAISS and CSTR.
