Logistics Officer – North Afar

About the role

NRC Ethiopia is looking for a Logistics Officer to support its operations in the North Afar region. The role covers general management, base and asset management, procurement support and inventory and fleet coordination, in line with the organisation's policies and donor requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Support Afar operations in programme implementation according to the plan of action, and share ideas for improvement.
• Visit field locations regularly and give onsite support to logistics and admin staff.
• Raise awareness of NRC policies, procedures, the Code of Conduct and anti-corruption rules among staff and partners.
• Maintain and repair premises such as offices, field offices and warehouses, ensure utilities are provided on time and cost-effectively, and coordinate payment of utility bills, guest house and warehouse rents.
• Provide security guards for offices and warehouses, control handover of assets and follow up on reports.
• Support the Procurement Officer: maintain a transparent, compliant procurement system, prepare procurement plans, pre-qualify suppliers, run market research and keep a supplier database.
• Ensure purchase orders and contracts are prepared, dispatched and delivered correctly, and keep procurement records properly filed.
• Take part in physical stock counts, support regular inventory audits and help manage the fleet by ensuring proper fuel storage and vehicle parking.

Required profile

• Degree in Logistics and Procurement Management, Business Administration or equivalent.
• At least three years' experience as a logistics officer with an INGO.
• Good organisational skills, attention to detail, numeracy and ability to work to deadlines and priorities.
• Team player, adaptable and flexible, with excellent written and oral communication in English.
• Adherence to NRC policies and procedures, meeting procurement timeframes and ensuring value for money.

• Computer packages: Word, Excel and PowerPoint, email and internet.
• Fast and accurate typing, and knowledge of databases.
