Medical Doctor - Jijiga

About the role

This is a full-time, on-site Medical Doctor position based in Jijiga. The doctor provides comprehensive clinical care, including patient assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, in line with evidence-based guidelines. The practice is patient-centred and collaborative, with a focus on improving access to quality care for underserved communities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct consultations, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications and coordinate referrals to specialised services when needed.
• Maintain accurate medical records and take part in case discussions.
• Collaborate with other health professionals to ensure continuity and quality of care.
• Support public health initiatives, health education and emergency response activities, and contribute to community health promotion and SRHR advocacy.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MD or equivalent) from an accredited institution and a valid licence to practice medicine in the relevant jurisdiction.
• Proven clinical skills in examination, diagnosis, treatment planning and management of common conditions.
• Experience in public health, emergency response or humanitarian health programmes, preferably in resource-limited or cross-cultural settings.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with diverse patients and multidisciplinary teams.
• Commitment to ethical, patient-centred care and sensitivity to cultural, gender and SRHR issues.
• Ability to manage high workloads and make sound decisions under pressure.
• Advantageous: experience in healthcare programme development, quality improvement or healthcare entrepreneurship.

Required skills

• Proficiency in the languages used in Jijiga.
• Basic computer skills for electronic medical records and reporting.
