About the role
PATH is hiring three Regional Technical Advisors for its Integrated Innovation Highway (IIH) project in Ethiopia, a Gates Foundation initiative that helps the Ministry of Health introduce and scale health innovations. The project covers medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccines, technology and bundled innovations, with Phase 1 focusing on AI-enabled point-of-care ultrasound, TB diagnostics and Ebola diagnostics. The Advisor acts as the main regional focal point, working with the Regional Health Bureau, zonal and woreda health offices and health facilities. There are three separate positions, one for each region (Somali, Oromia and Sidama), and candidates must state their preferred region.
Key responsibilities
- Help develop and implement regional work plans aligned with MoH priorities and project goals, and integrate IIH activities into regional health plans.
- Support readiness assessments for priority innovations and adapt national guidelines and protocols to regional contexts.
- Provide hands-on technical support to RHBs, zonal and woreda offices and facilities during introduction and transition to scale, including training coordination, supportive supervision and equipment maintenance.
- Support AI-POCUS, TB PlusLife and Ebola diagnostics workstreams in coordination with national technical leads.
- Engage government health institutions, universities, innovators and development partners, and represent the project in regional forums.
- Monitor progress, collect and validate implementation data, and document lessons learned.
- Prepare regional progress reports and contribute to quarterly and annual project reporting.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Health Informatics, Health Systems Management or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Experience with donor-funded public health programs, preferably Gates Foundation funded.
- Demonstrated experience with government health institutions in Ethiopia, such as RHBs, zonal and woreda offices and health facilities.
- Willingness to travel regularly within the assigned region and to Addis Ababa.
- Preferred: experience with regional health authorities and decentralized health systems in the named settings.
Required skills
- Familiarity with AI-enabled point-of-care ultrasound, medical device deployment, near-point-of-care diagnostics, TB diagnostics or public health emergency preparedness and response.
- Ability to work with government health institutions and to travel regularly.
