National Consultant: Sign Language Interpreter (3.5 months)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a National Consultant to provide sign‑language interpretation services in Addis Ababa for a 3.5‑month assignment. The consultant will support staff and partners by ensuring clear communication in meetings, events and emergency situations.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret discussions, announcements, conversations, meetings and events using Ethiopian Sign Language.
• Provide accurate, fluent translation of spoken language into sign language and vice‑versa.
• Offer information and orientation to staff during emergency situations.
• Facilitate effective communication between UNICEF staff, partners and external stakeholders.
• Utilize technology, including speech‑to‑text tools, when required to support communication.

Required profile

• Certified sign‑language interpreter.
• Minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience providing sign‑language interpretation services.
• Ability to work independently and travel within Ethiopia as needed.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Ethiopian Sign Language.
• Familiarity with speech‑to‑text technology.
