National Consultant: Sign Language Interpreter (3.5 months)

About the role
UNICEF is seeking a National Consultant to provide sign language interpretation services for a 3.5‑month assignment in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The consultant will support staff and partners by ensuring effective communication in both routine and emergency contexts.
Key responsibilities
- Interpret discussions, announcements, meetings, events and other spoken interactions using the appropriate manual sign language system.
- Accurately render spoken content into fluent Ethiopian Sign Language.
- Provide information and orientation to staff during emergency situations.
- Facilitate communication between UNICEF staff, partners and other stakeholders.
- Utilize speech‑to‑text technology when required to transcribe speech for staff.
Required profile
- Certified sign language interpreter.
- Minimum three years of professional sign language interpretation experience, preferably in the public sector.
- Experience providing interpretation services in emergency contexts.
Required skills
- Sign language interpretation.
- Ethiopian Sign Language proficiency.
- Use of speech‑to‑text tools.
