National Education Consultant – Adolescent Engagement (Semera, Ethiopia)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a National Consultant to provide technical support for adolescent engagement and youth participation under the PROSPECT 2.0 programme in Semera, Ethiopia. The consultant will work closely with the Education Specialist and regional education bureau to ensure gender‑sensitive, adolescent‑responsive approaches are integrated into education programmes.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise meaningful youth engagement by facilitating adolescent participation and organizing volunteer activities aligned with their interests.
• Conduct consultations with adolescents and young people using face‑to‑face and online instruments.
• Provide technical support to the regional education bureau for work planning and implementation of adolescent and youth engagement.
• Initiate and maintain partnerships with youth‑led organisations, especially those focusing on climate change, education, entrepreneurship, skills development and mental health.
• Advocate for meaningful participation of adolescents and youth in programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
• Monitor integration of adolescent‑responsive approaches into formal and non‑formal education interventions.
• Supervise adolescent leadership, civic engagement and life‑skills initiatives.
• Promote inclusive participation of vulnerable and marginalized adolescents, including girls and children with disabilities.

Required profile

• Relevant experience in education, youth engagement or related fields.
• Familiarity with gender‑sensitive and adolescent‑responsive approaches.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the Education Specialist and collaborate with regional education bureaus.
• Experience in partnership building with youth‑led organisations.
