National Education Consultant – Adolescent Engagement (Semera, Ethiopia)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a National Education Consultant to lead adolescent engagement and youth participation activities under the PROSPECT 2.0 programme in Semera, Ethiopia. The consultant will work closely with the Education Specialist to ensure that programmes are responsive to the needs of young people.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate meaningful youth engagement by organising volunteer activities and consultations with adolescents, both face‑to‑face and online.
• Provide technical support to regional education bureaus for planning and implementing adolescent‑responsive, gender‑sensitive programmes.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with youth‑led organisations, especially those focusing on climate change, education, entrepreneurship, skills development and mental health.
• Advocate for the inclusion of adolescents in programme design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
• Monitor and promote the integration of adolescent‑responsive approaches in formal and non‑formal education interventions.
• Supervise initiatives on adolescent leadership, civic engagement and life‑skills, ensuring inclusive participation of vulnerable groups, including girls and children with disabilities.

Required profile

• Relevant higher‑education degree in Education, Social Sciences or a related field.
• Experience working with adolescents and youth organisations in Ethiopia or similar contexts.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement youth participation strategies.
• Strong understanding of gender‑sensitive and inclusive approaches.
