Ocean Freight Team Leader

About the role

DHL Global Forwarding is seeking an Ocean Freight Team Leader to drive the implementation of its Ocean Freight (OFR) operations and customer service strategy in Addis Ababa. You will lead a team that ensures the smooth flow of goods across global supply chains, maximising profitability while maintaining high service standards.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and execute OFR Ops/CS strategy in line with corporate guidelines.
• Monitor daily team activities, assign tasks, and meet service targets.
• Develop and achieve ocean freight productivity and profitability goals.
• Design and launch product plans for specialised cargo such as perishables, pharmaceuticals and aviation.
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities while strengthening relationships with existing clients.
• Prepare monthly performance reports and present them to management.
• Lead the preparation of shipping tenders and ensure timely submission of required documentation.
• Respond to pricing enquiries competitively and maintain up‑to‑date tariff information.
• Oversee all inbound and outbound documentation, customs updates and issue resolution.
• Analyse supplier performance and implement improvement actions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in ocean freight operations and team leadership.
• Strong understanding of import/export documentation, customs procedures and tariff management.
• Demonstrated ability to develop business plans and achieve sales targets.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
• Fluent in English; knowledge of local languages is a plus.
