Project Associate – Protection (GBV/CP)

About the role

The Project Associate will support IOM Ethiopia’s Protection Unit in delivering protection services to vulnerable migrants, including victims of trafficking, unaccompanied and separated children, and individuals exposed to gender‑based violence. The role contributes to non‑emergency programming such as counter‑trafficking, child protection, and community outreach.

Key responsibilities

• Identify, refer and assist migrants and displaced persons at risk of exploitation, abuse, or trafficking.
• Support case‑management processes and maintain accurate protection data.
• Assist in the design and delivery of capacity‑building activities for partners and service providers.
• Contribute to research, monitoring and reporting on protection trends.
• Coordinate with government authorities, NGOs and other stakeholders to ensure effective referral pathways.
• Provide operational support to Migration Response Centres on key migratory routes.

Required profile

• University degree in social sciences, migration studies, public health, humanitarian affairs or a related field.
• Relevant experience in protection, gender‑based violence, child protection or counter‑trafficking.
• Familiarity with international humanitarian standards and survivor‑centred approaches.
• Strong communication skills in English; knowledge of local languages is an asset.
• Ability to work in a multicultural, multi‑stakeholder environment.
