Project Manager – Wildlife Conservation for Development

About the role

The Project Manager will lead the implementation of the GEF‑8 Wildlife Conservation for Development Integrated Program in Ethiopia. The role combines biodiversity protection with sustainable development, overseeing protected‑area management, community livelihoods, anti‑poaching initiatives and nature‑based tourism.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute a comprehensive project implementation plan covering all components of the program.
• Coordinate with national authorities, UN agencies, NGOs and local communities to ensure effective protected‑area management across eight sites and two new areas.
• Monitor progress, manage budgets, and produce regular reports for donors and stakeholders.
• Lead capacity‑building activities for anti‑poaching, anti‑trafficking and cross‑border collaboration.
• Promote sustainable practices in buffer‑zone production landscapes and support restoration of degraded ecosystems.
• Facilitate the expansion of nature‑based tourism and diversification of livelihood opportunities.
• Integrate adaptive learning and behavioral‑change strategies to strengthen wildlife economies and community resilience.

Required profile

• Proven experience in project management, preferably in wildlife conservation, biodiversity or environmental development.
• Knowledge of protected‑area management, anti‑poaching measures and community‑based natural resource management.
• Experience working with UN agencies, international donors or multi‑stakeholder partnerships.
• Strong coordination, communication and reporting skills.
• Ability to work in Ethiopia and engage with diverse cultural and institutional contexts.
