Project Officer - Integrated Health Systems Strengthening (Maternity Cover)

About the role

Amref Health Africa is recruiting a Project Officer for its Integrated Health Systems Strengthening (iHSS) programme in Ethiopia, based in Debre Birhan. The role provides integrated technical assistance and coordination for the day-to-day implementation of the iHSS programme at subnational level, reporting directly to the IHSS Regional Technical Coordinator. It focuses on achieving project deliverables and targets and building partnerships with government and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate project activities, align them with regional and woreda health plans, and run project review and planning meetings
• Coordinate administrative functions such as logistics, finance and procurement in line with Amref and donor requirements
• Build relationships with the Woreda Health Office, Regional Health Bureau and other officials, and promote community engagement
• Support capacity building on health system topics and provide supportive supervision to woreda and facilities
• Carry out field monitoring, document lessons learned, support quarterly data quality assessments and report regularly to the regional technical coordinator
• Manage the project budget, prepare activity TORs and check financial utilisation against the approved budget

Required profile

• Master's degree in public health or another health discipline
• At least five years of experience in health systems strengthening; expertise in governance, healthcare financing and health system inputs in Ethiopia is preferred
• Proven ability to work with government counterparts and build networks
• Fluency in English and at least one local language of the duty station
• Willingness to travel extensively to the field and to work within Amref's policies and procedures

• Computer literacy: MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and MS Outlook
• Strong facilitation, communication and interpersonal skills
