Senior Education Consultant, Foundational Learning

About the role

The Senior Education Consultant, Foundational Learning will act as the project officer for the Education Advocacy in Africa grant, supporting the African Union Commission’s Department of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation (ESTI). The role focuses on operationalising foundational learning within the Continental Education Strategy for Africa 2026‑2035 and guiding AU Member States to invest effectively in literacy and numeracy.

Key responsibilities

• Support and advance implementation of the Education Advocacy in Africa project.
• Lead the implementation of the ELPAf Campaign.
• Provide technical advice and assistance to ESTI on foundational learning and its integration into the continental strategy.
• Offer technical support and guidance to Member States on foundational literacy and numeracy coordination and representation.
• Ensure activities align with broader AU priorities, statutory processes and sustainability considerations.

Required profile

• Master’s degree with a specialization in Foundational Learning, Economics, Social Sciences or a related education field.
• Minimum of 8 years’ experience in education policy and programme planning at a continental or regional level.
• Proven experience in education advocacy, foundational literacy and numeracy initiatives.
• Ability to work under the supervision of the Head of Education Division (ESTI) and receive technical guidance from UNICEF and UNECA representatives.
