Soil Science GIS & Remote Sensing Specialist

About the role

The University seeks a full‑time specialist to lead soil science research with a strong focus on GIS and remote sensing. The position combines field and laboratory work, spatial data analysis, and teaching support within the Department of Soil Science.

Key responsibilities

• Design and conduct field and laboratory studies on soil properties, land use and environmental management.
• Collect, process, and analyse spatial data using GIS and remote sensing tools.
• Produce maps, spatial models and technical reports to support research and teaching.
• Develop and update curriculum, supervise student projects and theses.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on research projects and community outreach.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or PhD in Soil Science, Geospatial Sciences, Environmental Science or a closely related field (PhD preferred).
• Demonstrated experience in university‑level teaching, student supervision and curriculum development.
• Proven research record with peer‑reviewed publications.
• Ability to work on‑site in Hawassa and conduct fieldwork.
• Familiarity with Ethiopian or regional agro‑ecological contexts is an advantage.
