About the role
The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) is seeking a Staff Assistant to support the Director of the Administration and Conference Management Division in Addis Ababa. The role provides comprehensive administrative and coordination support to ensure smooth operation of the division and effective communication with senior officials.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in the overall administration of the Front Office/division, providing substantive and administrative support to manage priorities and workflow of the Director and the Division.
- Serve as a communications link between the supervisor and senior staff, conveying directives, reports, status updates and bringing sensitive matters to the Director’s attention.
- Manage the Director’s calendar and scheduling, prioritising and resolving conflicts and competing demands.
- Undertake representational duties on behalf of the Director, acting as the first point of contact and liaison with senior officials internally and externally.
- Screen and prioritize all incoming correspondence, compile relevant background documents, identify issues requiring the Director’s attention and monitor follow‑up actions.
- Research, compile and summarise background materials for reports, briefs, speeches and other documents, scanning specialised agency reports and media sources for items of interest.
- Independently handle a wide range of administrative tasks to ensure timely delivery of management directives and decisions.
